Curriculum: NCTM Standards for Math and Diocesan standards for Science (Website).Math for High School Entrance exam is integrated into the curriculum.
Volunteers: Need help for the Science fair and Field trips. Please let me know if you are willing to volunteer.
We are building our classroom library and donations of Science nonfiction books will be very much appreciated. Please text my cell# and let me know if you could donate a book for our classroom.

We may work in pairs or small groups depending on the availability of materials.
Coloring activities for the visual and kinesthetic learners.
We also make models of what we are studying.
Videos on the topics that we are studying.
Interactive Notebooks-A very hands –on approach to note booking.
Home work
Monday through Thursday .Homework packet for the week given on Monday.
20 minutes each night.
LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT REASONING (i.e. doctor’s note or a note from parent/guardian).
Students will have one week (5 school days) to make up all tests and projects assigned during their absence with full credit being given.
Homework may be graded in a variety of ways. At times, checking for completion is appropriate. At other times, a complete analysis of procedure, content, and/or correct answers is appropriate.
Term Projects
4 term projects and one is the Science fair. The first one is the Science nonfiction Book report.
Scientist of the day (One per month) will prepare the students for the science fair while having fun at the same time. Details and schedule will be posted on the website.
Composition notebook-Science dictionary project.
Students will have opportunities to work on projects that are of interest and value to them.
Tests and Quizzes:
Math Test every Friday.
Most quizzes will be announced a day or two ahead of time. Pop quizzes-unannounced.
Quiz material can be taken from text, notes, homework assignments, and labs. Therefore, it is imperative to complete all assignments on time and take notes in class.
If the students do all their work and study the completed work, children are ready for quizzes and tests!
Grading:
Grading will be based on class work, homework, hands-on projects, Quick Quizzes, tests, term projects, Science fair project, journals, and participation.
Students will be graded on a point system. You can figure the grade by dividing how many points earned by the total points possible.
Grading scale: (As outlined in the 5th-8th grade handbook)
Letter grades
94-100% A
85-93% B
76-84% C
70-75% D
70% and below F
Weighted Averages:
Math
50%-Tests
20%-H/W (Reinforcement worksheets, IXL, Khan Academy)
10% Class work (Includes INB, class participation, warm ups, journaling)
20%- quizzes (Includes Pop quizzes)
Science
50%-Tests/Projects (Term projects and Dictionary project)/Scientist of the Day
20%-H/W
10%-C/W (Class participation, INB)
20%-Quizzes (Includes Pop quizzes)
****Remember it is the child’s RESPONSIBILITY to see me for makeup work and schedule make up tests. Please send me an email or text and remind me. I will not chase them for missing assignments or make up tests!
